An estimate by recruitment and staffing agency Ciel HR Services reveals that within the final 4 weeks one-third of the explanation for candidates dropping off on the final second was as a result of relocation scare. “Several candidates – mostly in the mid to senior level – are concerned about relocation, especially to the metro cities that are seeing a big spike in Coronavirus infections,” stated Aditya Narayan Mishra, CEO of Ciel HR Services. “Lot of candidates are saying they can’t commit to relocation within a specific time period which the companies are insisting to mention in the appointment letter,” stated Mishra.
“We have come across some job seekers who are developing cold feet when they are asked to relocate away from their hometowns,” stated Shiv Agarwal, managing director, ABC Consultants. “There are also some people who are having this lastminute anxiety of whether or not to switch jobs as the rising second wave is also adding to the economic uncertainty,” stated Agarwal. Alok Kumar, senior director for gross sales, account administration and world accounts, ManpowerGroup India, stated: “Candidates are looking for an assurance from companies that they will be allowed to continue working from their hometowns and not called back to base locations as many companies are doing.”
