Former NFL linebacker Geno Hayes died aged 33 on Monday, two years after he was recognized with liver illness.
(*33*)Hayes performed for Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars within the NFL, along with his final season coming in 2014.
He told ESPN last month he was on a ready checklist for a liver transplant and final week was moved into hospice care.
Hayes believed ache medicine taken throughout his NFL profession contributed to the situation.
“The first diagnosis they gave me was alcoholic cirrhosis,” Hayes instructed ESPN.
“But when we dug in deeper, it became just chronic liver disease, because I don’t drink like that.
“If I did drink, it was similar to wine or one thing like that. But my physique is made completely different.”
The Bucs mentioned they had been “deeply saddened” by his demise.
“Geno was a beloved team-mate and sometimes the primary participant to volunteer his time to our efforts locally,” an announcement mentioned.
“He incessantly visited colleges and had a outstanding potential to attach with kids.
“Losing him at such a young age is heartbreaking.”
