NEW DELHI: West Bengal farmers’ wait to get advantages below the central ‘income support scheme’, PM-Kisan, may finish soon because the state, after being politically cornered on the difficulty within the runup to meeting polls, has lastly come on board by responding to the verification train for beneficiaries.
Under the scheme, every landholder farmer household will get Rs 6,000 each year. The central authorities transfers cash straight into their financial institution accounts in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000.

Though West Bengal resisted becoming a member of the scheme for 2 years, round 55% (38 lakh) of the whole 69 lakh farmers within the state have registered themselves on the PM-Kisan portal voluntarily in what might be a transparent message to the Mamata Banerjee authorities within the wake of BJP’s promise to get them their dues if the occasion involves workplace.
Almost one lakh farmers of West Bengal registered themselves day-after-day on the PM-Kisan portal up to now two weeks. Sensing the temper of farmers, the state authorities lastly initiated the method of verification and forwarded the checklist of beneficiaries to the agriculture ministry.
“We are cross-checking the details by corroborating it with Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts of farmers. Transfer of money into eligible farmers’ accounts may happen soon. We expect the state to quickly verify the details of as many potential beneficiaries as possible at its end,” a senior agriculture ministry official stated whereas confirming the state’s participation.
The PM-Kisan scheme will full two years on Wednesday. So far, over 10.7 crore farmers have acquired cash below the scheme with UP, Maharashtra, MP, Bihar and Rajasthan taking the highest 5 positions in absolute numbers.
Though most states had joined the scheme in February 2019, the remaining ones besides West Bengal had come on board throughout the subsequent few months.
